Lets Get It Started!

I am what you might call morbidly obese. I havent always been this way. I was bigger in elementary school (not fat, but not skinny) and I was kinda skinny in Jr. High and High School. I used to do track and field in high school. I worked out every day. I was about 165 when I graduated high school.

But something happened after high school, and I'm not sure what it was. My relationship with food changed. I am now ____ pounds. I'm not ready to say how much I weigh (maybe when I hit goal weight I will be able to admit how far I've come) but I can say that I often have to consider the structural integrity of a chair before I sit down.

I want to lose weight. I want to be able to play sports with Eli. I want to be able to do stuff without having to worry about emberassing myself because of my lack of athleticism. I want to start backpacking again. I want to be able to take my shirt off when I go swimming. I mostly just want to be healthy. My goal is to get back down to my high school weight in three years. On the Fourth of July, 2013, I will be down to my goal weight and then I'll publish this blog. I've already planned how I'll celebrate.

The purpose of this blog is to keep me motivated. If I give myself an end date and have a place where I can talk about my journey, then I think I'll get better results. I plan on sharing monthly updates (36 in all), and recipes and weight loss tips along the way.

Here are some pics. The first picture was from ninth grade. I'm the one on the left in the red shirt. (not the most flattering picture, but you can see that I was relatively skinny) The second picture was taken recently. I am the big guy on the left. See what I mean by morbidly obese?

So here we go. Lets get it started.
